Our Purpose

Bring people to Christ, Develop them to Christ-like maturity, Equip them for ministry, Glorify the name of God.

REACHTo Bring People to Christ

We are commanded in Scripture to be a witness.  “And ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)  As a body of faith we seek to reach others through daily witness, community involvement, outreach events, local and global missions and ministries of Calvary.  Various events and strategies to reach the unchurched are part of our purpose as a church. Believing that we have the Good News, our commitment and our obedience involves sharing that News with our surrounding community and world (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Rom. 1:16).

GROWDevelop them to Christ-like maturity

We are commanded in Scripture to make disciples.  “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”  (Matt. 28:19-20)  Systematic exposition of the Scriptures is made available through several means, not the least being Sunday worship.  Discipleship involves strategy and commitment.  Through various means, large and small, our goal is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry.  Since the result of discipleship is spiritual reproduction, our efforts will include a strategy that will allow each believer an avenue of expressing his own spiritual gifts.

SERVEEquip them for ministry

Serving is where the Christian breathes and practices that from which we have been taught in discipleship.  Serving God allows each of us to worship Him in a way that is as unique as we are. Applying the gifts God has given us and allowing Him to work through us is an expression of our love to God and our gratitude to Jesus for saving us. Pleasing the Lord with the gifts He has entrusted to us should be of the highest priority in each of our lives.

WORSHIPGlorify the name of God

The Worship Ministry at Calvary fuels the mission of the church to glorify God. When we come together in a worship gathering, we praise God for what He has done and is doing in our lives and the lives of others; we petition Him in prayer and hear His voice as we pray; and we learn God's vision for our lives and how to follow His direction through the study of His Word.  Corporate worship is a rhythm of revelation and response. That is, when we gather, we listen to revelation from God's Word through music and teaching, and respond not only with our voices, but with our lives. The Worship Ministry at Calvary is dedicated to facilitating opportunities to worship and to respond to God's Word.

To take the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to the Capital Area and around the world through the members and ministries of Calvary Baptist.

We believe as followers of Christ we are all to be growing and modeling Christ-likeness from the youngest to the oldest member.  We believe it is essential that each believer get plugged into a small group where they can be fed, discipled and have accountability.  We feel strongly that every member is a minister and should get plugged into the life of the church through serving.  Regular service allows each person an opportunity to share Christ locally and ultimately globally.  Followers of Christ are uniquely gifted to minister in their circle of influence, putting hands and feet to the ministry of Jesus today. God’s workmanship becomes evident in the lives of Christians as they step out of their comfort zone and begin to function as the minister that God created them to be. The unique gifts, passions and abilities which are deposited in each believer are given to build up the church and encourage others.
